Carlisle is the name of an Old English town, it has been given the meaning “from the walled city” – it stands firm, resilient. The strong lines in this sweater remind me of this sentiment, giving the sweater structure as if they hold it up. These lines dominate the sweater as they draw your eye across the increases, down the lines of the body, and into the hem.

The signature feature of this sweater is the permanently folded collar, body hem, and sleeve cuffs, giving comfortable edges that don’t flair outward with wear (my biggest pet peeve for sweaters)! German short rows are worked to slightly raise the back, while subtly swooping the front of the collar downward.

Because of its deep raglan yoke this would also make a great oversized sweater for knitters who may like looser fitting garments with more positive ease than suggested! In this pattern I provide twelve sizes to choose from, giving the option to fine tune your sweater for your preferred fit.
