Carmen is my Grand-Ma! She and Jean-Paul have been married for almost 40 years. At the beginning of their marriage, my Grand-Ma used to knit socks for my Grand-Pa, “fashionable diamond socks”. Unfortunately, the memory of my Grand-Ma is no longer what it used to be, and she doesn’t remember the pattern.

I’ve created the Carmen Socks in tribute to my Grand-Ma. I’ve imagined a pattern reminiscent of the diamond socks as described by my grandmother. The design is made of contrasting colored slip stitches and garter stitch insertions.

The addition of the contrasting color is done vertically to keep all the flexibility and elasticity of the socks. You will need less than 24 meters (27 yards) of the contrasting color. The heel is worked in German short rows to have a nice rounded shape without holes!

Carmen Socks are pretty short socks knitted from the tip to the beginning of the ankle. They are perfect for summer since they hide very well in sports shoes without sagging.

The pattern includes instructions for five different sizes.
Foot circumference: 18 (20, 22, 24, 26) cm / 7 (7.8, 8.6, 9.5, 10.25) inches.
Number of stitches: 56 (60, 64, 68, 72) cm

Carmen est ma Grand-Ma! Elle et Jean-Paul ont été mariés pendant presque 40 ans. Au début de leur mariage, ma Grand-Ma tricotait des bas à mon Grand-Pa, les bas « à la mode » à pointes diamant. Malheureusement, la mémoire de ma Grand-Ma n’est plus ce qu’elle était et elle ne se souvient plus du patron.

J’ai créé les Bas Carmen en hommage à ma Grand-Ma. J’ai imaginé un motif qui rappelle les points diamant tels que décrits par ma Grand-Ma d’amour. Le motif est formé de mailles glissées d’une couleur contrastante et d’insertion de point mousse.

L’ajout de la couleur contrastante se fait verticalement afin conserver toute la souplesse et l’élasticité des chaussettes. Vous aurez besoin de moins de 24 mètres (27 verges) de la couleur contrastante. Le talon est travaillé en rangs raccourcis (German short rows) pour avoir une belle forme arrondie et sans trou!

Les Bas Carmen sont de jolies chaussettes courtes qui se tricotent à partir de la pointe jusqu’au début de la cheville. Elles sont parfaites pour l’été puisqu’elles se camouflent bien dans les chaussures de sport sans s’affaisser.
