Carré

Carré was first published in the French FIBRE magazine no.2 in April 2024, and is now available for individual purchase in English.

One of my favourite songs is “Where the Streets Have No Name”, so this sweater attempts to subtly embody the city centre in Mannheim, the Quadrate, a place where the streets have no name. Carré is worked top down in slipped stitch ribbing, and is decorated by a gorgeous and unique lace and colourwork band. Short rows form deep shaping over the shoulders and then transitions to the lace and colourwork band across the wingspan. After the sleeves are closed using a 3-needle BO, the remaining body is worked in the round to the hem.

Please note, the pattern PDF is in English only. If you really need the French translation, please e-mail or message me!

Gauges

To find your needle sizes, you need to swatch.

Slipped Stitch Ribbing: 25 sts / 37 rows to 10cm / 4” using size A needles.

Lace & Colourwork Band: 25 sts / 34 rows to 10cm / 4” using size A needles for lace and St st rows, and size B needles for the colourwork rows.

Needles & Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needles. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 3.5mm (US 4) circular needles of varying lengths
Size B: 4mm (US 6) circular needles 100cm / 40” in length

You will also need: cable needle for wrapping stitches; stitch markers; removable markers.
