Carreaux Crochet Double Layered Patch

With this pattern you can crochet a 2-layer patch at any size you would like to. With cotton, it’s perfect for a potholder. With soft yarn you can make a lot of patches and attach them the way you do with Granny Squares to make a warm cozy blanket.

The file shows you step-by-step how to do the basic technique, add crosses, make diagonal lines and add a third color. With the basic technique you are already able to make a nice potholder that fits your kitchen.

For every technique there is a little patch to crochet, so you can try it out and get to know this new crochet technique. After the four little patches you can crochet the pattern for a bigger one with rhombi, or make your own design.

My first tester said after the basic technique: “it’s fun to do, once you get the hang of it”. After the fourth patch her reactions was: “still nice to do, but this is more of a four-star sudoku.

The name “Carreaux” is chosen since I wanted an “X” in the name, because of the little crosses in some my first try-outs, but I couldn’t find a word in Dutch (my mother language) or English. It means ‘tiles’ in French and actually the French floor tiles were an inspiration for later designs.
