This pattern was featured in Peterson’s 1858, as a carriage bag. It is worked in double crochet, parts of the pattern are worked in the back loop to create a ridged appearance.

The bag is lined. Historically, it would have been given a foundation at the Berlin House. But, I don’t have one of those nearby, so I used a few dowel rods to provide structure.

I got the handle pattern from looking at other period patterns. I did end up using some cotton yarn on the handle, just because it had less stretch than wool.
