Cascading Cables Crochet Beanie
This pattern can be used to make a hat with just about any yarn, in any size! The cables weave in and out creating a beautiful cascading pattern. This is a fully tested pattern and includes a step by step photo tutorial and even links to multiple videos I created.
Written in US terminology
Sizes available: This pattern is written as a guide to help you make a hat in any size.
Yarn: This pattern is written so that you can use any yarn weight; however I have found worsted works the best in most cases. The yellow sample was made with Paton’s DK wool superwash and used just over 2 skeins for an 18” size hat (including the pom pom - without the pom pom it could be done with 2 skeins). If you are using another yarn weight you will want to make some adjustments, which I have noted in the pattern.
Yardage: Approximately 350 yards of worsted weight will make an adult size hat. Your yardage will depend on the size you are making as well as your yarn weight. I would recommend buying a little extra just to be sure you have enough yarn (never a bad idea!).
Gauge: Not important for this pattern
Hook: Use the hook recommended on your yarn band to make the ribbing of the hat, and go down one or two hook sizes to make the cables.
Other materials: tapestry needle to weave in ends
Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced
Stitches (st./st.’s) used: chain (ch.), half double crochet (hdc), half double crochet in the third loop (hdc3l), double crochet (dc), front post treble crochet (fptc)
Ribbing is worked in rows and sewn. The rest of the hat is worked in rounds from the bottom up.
When asterisks appear in the pattern, repeat everything between the asterisks as many times as instructed.
