This design reminds me of the hanging lanterns I remember seeing back in the 1970’s when visiting family in Sydney, Australia. As a family, we explored Sydney, including Chinatown where I remember seeing these lanterns. To me, Chinatown was a fascinating and exciting experience – a world away from what I knew growing up in a small farming community in South Australia.

Suited more towards an experienced colour work sock knitter, these toe up socks are worked with a heel flap and gusset with the design seeming to float on top of the background. The sole appears to seamlessly increase as the gussets are worked creating a subtle variation from the main pattern.
