In Normandy and Loire countryside the cluster of small red currants is called Castille. It is an old name, fresh and sweet which is appropriate for this baby sweater, with its vintage flair.

It is knitted from top to bottom with raglan sleeves. After separating body and sleeves stitches, the body is knitted back and forth with buttons band and buttonholes band. Then sleeves stitches that have been left on waste yarn are picked up and knitted in the round. You do not have any seaming to do! The sweater is worked in plain stockinette at the yoke and then in striped stockinette at the body and sleeves. The stripes pattern may vary according to your own choice. On this version it is a 4 rows/2 rows pattern. Simple, quick and efficient!

10 cm x 10 cm (4 in x 4 in) = 29 sts and 39 rows with US 2 (3 mm) needles through stockinette, after blocking.

Fonty, BB merino 100% merino superfine superwash, 50 g (1.76 oz), 200 m (218 yds).

• 1 (1, 2, 2, 2) balls of main colour (MC).
• 1 (1, 1, 1, 2) balls of contrasting colour (CC). Needles
• US 2 (3 mm) circular needle 80 cm (31 in).
• A set of 5 double pointed needles US 2 (3 mm) to knit sleeves in the round. Or whatever method that suits you to knit in the round. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. Notions
• 6 stitch markers (Ma, Mb, Mc, Md plus 2 markers for the button bands),
• 1 tapestry needle,
• 6 (7, 8, 8, 9) buttons.
