I love patchworks!! When one of my blankets was outdated (due to all family members, including dogs, fighting over it:)), I wanted to replace it by a patchwork. Being a lousy seamstress, I went for a seamless, knitted version.

My Castle and Cottage blanket is completely seamless, still it came out as a proper patch-work. I used different lace-patterns and moss-st squares to work the “body” of the blanket. End borders are made in moss-st, side borders are worked in a simple cable-pattern.
I just love the finished result: it could be used for almost any purpose: as a blanket for wrapping up in the couch or a comfortable chair, as a bed-spread, in the deck-chair when the weather is on the chilly side….
Depending on wool and color it could be used in almost any kind of interiour; whether you live in a cottage or a castle! The best Company for humid autumns and cold Winters….

Size The sample blanket measures 107x120cm/42 x47”. It could easily be adapted to other sizes, either by change of gauge, or with less or more sts. I explain how you can change the size in the pattern.

Construction The blanket is worked flat from one short side to the other. Cabled borders are worked in the sides of the blanket, the end borders are worked in moss st (UK)/ seed-st (US). The body of the blanket is worked using 6 different lace-patterns and moss-st for the squares.
The cabled borders are absolutely super: they are staying down and are not curling at all. No blocking or seaming needed!

Material I used Sandnes Garn Alpakka - (color 3121) an 8ply alpaca that comes in balls of 50gr/1.76oz and 110m/120yards. This alpaca is gorgeous - very strong, and knits up beautifully. You need 14 balls of wool to make the same size as the sample.

Gauge 22 sts and 32 rows using needles 3.5mm/US4 in moss/seed-st = 10x10cm/4x4”

Knitting skills I think an advanced beginner could make this blanket! Abbreviations used are: k, p, yo, ssk, k2tog, sl1k2togpsso and sl2(as if to k2tog)k1psso. The cables are VERY EASY, with a pattern repeat of 8 rows.

The pattern The pattern comes with a schematic over the lay-out of all squares, written instructions for all sections, full charts as well as written row-by-row instructions for all lace-squares.
I also give advise on how to modify the sizing of the blanket.
