Cat Crochet Pattern
This pattern gives step by step instructions on how to make your own cute kitty. This pattern is written using American crochet terms. There are no complicated stitches but there are short rows to shape the neck, front legs and tail. These are easy to do but a beginner might find them a little fiddly. The samples were made using a 3.25mm crochet hook and Stylecraft Special DK yarn (a number 3 weight yarn). You can use any yarn weight for this project so long as you use an appropriately sized hook (it is best to use a hook a little smaller than you usually use for the yarn weight to ensure the stuffing does not show through). Made using DK yarn your kitty will measure about 18cm, 31cm including the tail. You can use any colours but this pattern is written with grey as the main colour and white as a contrast.
You will need:
• Crochet hook
• Scissors
• Yarn needle
• Stuffing
• Stitch marker
• Toy eyes (I used 13mm cat eyes)
• About 50g grey yarn. You will need about 5g for the short rows so can either use a separate ball or make an egg sized ball off your main ball.
• About 10g of white yarn
• Scrap of pink yarn for the nose
Please note yarn amounts needed will be different if you use a different weight yarn
Stitches and techniques used:
• Magic ring (alternatively, chain 2 and then crochet into the second chain from hook.
• Sc (single crochet)
• Inc – (increase by making two sc in the next stitch)
• Dec – (decrease by using the invisible decrease or sc the next two stitches together)
• Chain
• Slip stitch
• Colour changes (for best results, pull the new colour through the last two loops on the previous stitch)
• Working in rounds in a continuous spiral
• Short rows. These are to help with shaping. The two chains at the start and end of each short row are purely there to save you from having to weave in ends. Just push the chains back out the way when you resume working again in rounds
