This crossover boatneck cardigan incorporates a stitch that I created, or rather I think I did. In knitting is there such a thing as a new stitch? I wanted a diagonal stitch to mirror the crossover design of this cardigan and I came up with this.
The cardigan is knit in super bulky yarn and while the stitch looks complicated it is really very easy and so can be knit by beginners. The most important part of the sweater is the GAUGE. You must knit a swatch and figure out the size of needle you need. This is critical and comes from a knitter who proudly and sheepishly wears a button that says, “Swatches are for Babies.” This stitch pattern, I am calling it Catching Fire (CF), really shrinks the width of the gauge, making it tightly woven and a very warm jacket/sweater that relaxes when blocked.
