Catharine's Forget-me-not
This afghan square was made in memory of my eldest daughter. My younger daughter assisted me with the central flower.
Please note (tip): The pattern suggests starting with a magic loop BUT I have found it is easier to crochet a circle of 3ch as a starting point, because the 1st round is 15sc (dc UK terms) into the beginning circle.
Even though we did check the pattern there is an error!!……….Sorry.
There is a new pdf available from the 27th March 2010 with the correction.
Round 6 from the square brackets should read -
{ 2ch, sk 1tr, 1dc in next st; 2ch; sk 1tr, 1tr in sc between shells; 2ch; sk 1tr ,1dc in next st; 2ch; sk 1tr 3sc in top of shell} 4 times
The error is written in bold and I couldn’t use square brackets in the above format so used {}
On 19th June 2013 I have added another download for the pattern written in UK crochet terms, as the original was written in US crochet terms. However spincushions discovered a typo. A new version is available from 22nd July 2013.
I hope this may be helpful to those who aren’t familar with US crochet terms.
Any yarn could be used but the result will not be a 12” square as written up. Also use a hook suitable for the yarn.
…Happy crocheting
I have used various blues and also my prototype was done in varigated yarn (see bottom picture)- interesting. Any combination but yellow and blue for rounds 1 & 2 respectively, so that there is a little forget-me-not as the central flower.
Enjoy
NOTE: a BIG thank you to happypeacock for testing the pattern and to the members of Crochet Lovers of Victoria group for ‘finding’ the typo.
