This aran inspired and fashionable shoulder cape will make a stylish day or evening option. Knit here in a blend of kid mohair and wool spun locally for us in Donegal it is warm and eye catching.

It took less than 200g (450 yards) to do the photographed pink version.
In traditional aran bainin and 5mm (8US), allow 300g or 550 yards.

As it is knit lengthwise with a 14 row repeat the size is easily adjusted by working more or less repeats.

The length could also be adjusted by adding more double moss stitches and keeping the same repeat rows (we did not develop this in the written notes, but plan to do this for our studio label versions for sale)

While the original pattern samples are a gauge of 5 sts and 7.5 rows to 4 ins on 4.5 european or 7 USA needles, we also worked it very successfully on a thicker worsted white aran with a gauge of 4 sts and 7 rows per inch.

LEAF Trim on white images: We developed the design by added a leaf trim to our white sample, some of you will know this from our leaf collar design here on Ravelry. Allow another 150g or 300 yards for this if you want that effect.
