Catkins
This shawl’s design reminds me of graceful branches of pussy willow (catkins). It can be a larger shawl or a smaller shawlette, and is appropriate for most lace and fingering weight yarns. The lacy design has a lot of drape and, depending on your yarn choice, would make a beautiful year round accessory.
After the first few rows of crocheting, the pattern changes to an easy two-row repeat of chains, double crochet and clusters. The chained border is lightly beaded, but beading is optional.
Because of the top-down construction, gauge is not important. However, it is important that you use a hook several sizes larger than what the yarn calls for to get the proper drape. Swatching and blocking is recommended.
I’ve rated this pattern as Advanced beginner, because basic knowledge of crochet is necessary. This includes single crochet, double crochet, slip stitch and chains.
