What is a Mystery Knit a Long (MKAL)? An MKAL is when the pattern is broken up into a series of clues or parts. What the final piece looks like is a mystery until all the parts have been received.
The Cats for All Seasons MKAL will begin on January 9 and run for 8 weeks with new clues sent each Thursday. Additionally, participants in the MKAL will be entered into a drawing (read more below).
About the Pattern
The Cats for All Seasons Scarf celebrates our feline friends through all the seasons of the year, starting with Winter and then visiting Spring, Summer, and finally Fall. Each seasonal section of the scarf shows cats being cats as they experience the world at different times of the year. It’s an adorably cute way to express your love for cats year-round.
Double knit, the scarf is fully reversible, featuring opposite color schemes on each side. The design is similar in layout to several of my other MKAL scarves, such as Cat Season Scarf, but it is designed for four sets of contrasting colors, one set for each season. Solid colors or yarns with subtle color changes work best.
Instructions are included for the double knitting technique. The finished size of the scarf is approximately 70 inches (178 cm) in length and 5.5 inches (14 cm) in width.
Materials
- Size 2 US (2.75 mm) needles.
- Size 1 US (2.25 mm) needles (optional for a neater cast on edge).
- Approximately 130 yards (119 m) each of eight contrasting colors of fingering weight yarn, two colors for each season.
- Needle to weave in ends.
Note: Ensure that each pair of colors for a particular season contrast well with each other to show off the design. Here are some sample colors that I chose for my scarf:
Winter: Dark blue and pale blue
Spring: Dark green and light pink
Summer: Dark teal and yellow
Fall: Dark brown and orange

If you are new to double knitting, I recommend trying out the technique before the MKAL starts. Try a double knit dishcloth, such as my Cat Playtime Potholder pattern or any of my other free double knit patterns.

Enter to WIN!
Any knitter who creates a project on Ravelry with pictures of their scarf and completes at least 50% of the scarf by the time the MKAL finishes on March 6 will be entered into a drawing. Three lucky winners will get $10 to spend in my Ravelry store.
For spoiler reasons, please do not use project photos as the first photo in your project until the final MKAL clue has been released on February 27. You can use the MKAL image from the Ravelry pattern page or a picture of your yarn or even a photo of your favorite cat. :)
