You can use buttonhole/button or just sew it in a loop. Worked flat. Fringe attached with crochet hook.

Note: I know I wouldn’t bother checking my gauge for a project such as this… if you also wouldn’t, consider how tight you normally knit and adjust your needle size accordingly. I am a very loose knitter, and in this pattern I did not account for this… go up a needle size if you are a regular knitter, and consider going up more needle sizes if you are a tight knitter. Also consider your cat’s head ;) the model, Loki, is a tiny tiny cat.
