Caucasian Red Deer Socks
These socks were inspired by the ancient red deer petroglyphs at Ukhtasar in Armenia’s Syunik region as well as the animals of today that World Wildlife Fund Armenia is trying to bring back to the region after being hunted to extinction over 50 years ago.
The socks are knit in the round from the toe up and include an inserted heel. The sock is decorated with deer print, chevron, and red deer motifs as well as a decorative lateral braid around the cuff. The pattern is easily adaptable and includes instructions for how to ensure a proper fit for your foot/leg size.
The socks were designed for Daughter of a Shepherd Ram Jam Sport. The pictured socks were knit with US size 0 double-pointed needles from:
- 2 skeins of Ram Jam Sport in shade 2 Mid Grey
- 1 skein of Ram Jam Sport in shade 0 Natural White
- ½ skein of Ram Jam Sport in shade Equinox
The pattern is currently available via Daughter of a Shepherd’s Caucasian Red Deer kit which includes a printed version of the pattern and Ram Jam Sport yarn. 5 GBP from the purchase of each kit will be donated to World Wildlife Fund Armenia to help support their vital programs - like the Caucasian Red Deer Reintroduction project.
