This is a written pattern, but with a lot of pictures to guide you. And because I used a ‘strange’ stitch, I also added a link to a short video to the pattern which explaines that stitch. Have fun!

Meet Caurus, a small square which will make your head turn… or at least your eyes! ;-)

I am still in love with these ombre squares, with interesting effects made with little effort. It might seem like there are Apache Tears involved in this pattern, but I have used a different stitch, which I will explain lateron. It think Caurus would be a great square for a blanket. It’s nice and loose, so a couple of them might just serve as a perfect baby blanket.

When I was designing this square it was May, which is spring in Holland, but it was already sweltering hot, like the midst of summer. That might be the reason I could only see a windmill, or a fan in this square. It made me think of cooler things, of cool breezes… like the NorthWest wind. And so this square is named after the Roman god of the NortWest wind: Caurus!

Yarn, hook and size
I used a 3.5 mm hook and Scheepjes Catona in three colours to create the effect I wanted. I will show you three squres in this pattern, with two different coloursets and two different placements. The colour placements for the pink square is part of the pattern and the ones for the blue squares will be presented at the end of this pattern.

Cauros measures 15 x 15 cm / 6 x 6 inches in this yarn, with this hook.

Maak kennis met Caurus, een klein vierkant dat je hoofd doet draaien … of op zijn minst je ogen! ;-)

Ik ben nog steeds verliefd op deze vierkanten met een ombre verloop, met interessante effecten die je maakt met weinig moeite. Het lijkt misschien dat er Apache Tears bij dit patroon betrokken zijn, maar ik heb een andere steek gebruikt, die ik later zal uitleggen. Caurus is een mooie basis voor een deken. Of wat dacht je van een lief, luchtig katoenen babydekentje?

Toen ik dit patroon aan het ontwerpen was, was het nog maar mei, maar het was al broeierig heet, zoals midden in de zomer. Dat is misschien de reden dat ik alleen een windmolen of een ventilator in dit patroon kon zien. Het deed me denken aan koude dingen, aan een koel briesje… zoals de noordwesten wind. En dus is dit plein vernoemd naar de Romeinse god van de noordwestelijkw wind: Caurus!

** Garen, haaknaald en afmeting **
Ik gebruikte een haaknaald van 3,5 mm en Scheepjes Catona in drie kleuren om het effect te creëren dat ik zocht. Ik laat je drie varianten zien in dit patroon, met twee verschillende kleurencombinaties en twee verschillende kleurverlopen. De kleuren voor het roze vierkant maken deel uit van het patroon en de kleuren voor de blauwe vierkanten worden aan het einde van dit patroon apart weergegeven.

Caurus meet 15 x 15 cm in dit garen, met deze haaknaald.
