Cavehill, one of the Belfast hills, overlooks the city and is right on my doorstep. Winter walks there saw the need for a really cosy neck warmer and hat, so this pattern was born.

Both are knit using bulky weight yarn which means they are quick knits and perfect for gifts.

The pattern has written instruction for both cowl and hat. There is also a chart for the hat.

Yarn: 2 x 100g (158yds/144mts)
Hayfield Chunky Tweed - Shade:148
This was enough to make both hat and cowl (125g cowl / 75g hat) although if your gauge is different this will affect the amount of yarn needed.

Cowl:
Finished Measurements: 69cm/27” x 31cm/12’

Needles: 8mm (US 11) (or size needed to get gauge). Gauge: 11 sts x 17 rows per 4 inches in garter stitch
Gauge is not critical, but it will affect the amount of yarn needed.

Hat:
Size: Adult (approx. 56cm-59cm /22-23” head circumference)

Needles: 8 mm (US 11) 40cm (16”) long circular needles and DPNs for crown shaping or longer circular needles for magic loop. (or size needed to get gauge).

Gauge: 12 sts x 16 rows per 4 inches in stocking stitch
