Cawood Cowl
My home is in the Vale of York next to the River Ouse. It is a place of big skies and arable fields. Before the laying of the railways in the late 19th century the river was used to carry goods to and from the major port of Hull which in turn traded a lot with the Netherlands and up the East coast of the UK. Like the coastal fishermen of these shores, the boatmen of the River Ouse also wore ganseys. This cowl is inspired by the simple stitch patterns of those garments and knitted in local wool. Bouncy, cuddly WYS The Croft DK is spun in Yorkshire from yarn which has travelled down from Shetland.
No cable acrobatics here, just a twisted rib and a split diamond moss stitch net creating texture and adding interest and rhythm to the knitting process.
I hope you enjoy your journey upriver with this pattern
