Caylynn's Colourful Coasters
Create two different coasters using different slip stitches. These thick coasters will protect your furniture from cups and mugs.
Tools and Materials:
- 5.00 mm H-8 crochet hook – or appropriate hook for yarn weight used
- tapestry needle and scissors
- approximately 10 g 0.35 oz worsted or Aran cotton or other yarn suitable for coasters (samples used 10 g Bernat Handicrafter Cotton) - other yarn weights can be used, however the number of foundation chains will need to be changed
Sizes: One size. Samples are 10 x 10 cm (~4 x 4 inches). Width can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the number of starting chains (maintaining an even number of starting chains). Length can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the number of pattern repeats.
Gauge: 10 sts and 13 rows in 5 cm 2 in, however, gauge is not critical to this pattern.
Technical Notes:
- The coasters are made in rows, finishing with a chain 1 and a turn at the end of each row.
- The chain at the end of each row does not count as a stitch.
- A crochet hook with a pointier head can be helpful when making slip stitches (inline hooks often have a pointier head than tapered hooks). Alternatively, crocheting with a looser tension than normal can also help in making the slip stitches.
