My Christmas Day Cast On (CDCO) for 2024 are these simple mittens. They have a beautiful cable running across the hand. The cable is made to look nice from both the rightside and the wrongside, which means that you can fold it up or wear it down, depending on how much of your fingers you need to cover.

The pattern comes in 3 sizes and is made for 2 different yarn weights. You can either use a fingering weight (or, as I did, use a lace weight merino held together with a lace weight mohair), or a DK weight for a heavier mitten.
