Cedar River Beanie
The Cedar River Beanie is a warm cabled hat that can be worn two ways: either pulled down tight with a rolled brim, or allowed to rise to a peak, pixie-style. This makes the hat versatile and leaves open pom-pom or tassel possibilities!
Jess created this hat for two very close friends who are different in their tastes. Sigrid wears her hat close to her head with a rolled brim, and Brynne wears hers more peaked to allow room for curly hair and a bun.
After a section of ribbing, the main cables are beautiful braids that are surprisingly simple. Ribbed sections between the cables give the hat stretch and make for a pretty crown.
The yarn used in this hat is Shepherd’s Wool Worsted from Stonehedge Fiber Mill. A warm, traditional worsted-weight merino, Shepherd’s Wool is perfect for cables. This hat is knit on fairly small needles for a dense fabric that is warm enough for winter. Sigrid’s hat is knit in colors Sage and Berry. Brynne’s hat is knit in Berry only. The pattern uses almost exactly half a skein per hat, depending on your tension.
