A bold, graphic shawl is a delight to wear and offers wonderful opportunities to experiment with color. Celebrate Brooklyn is worked in four pieces (units), making it ideal for travel knitting. I know this firsthand because I knit a good bit of the sample in the car as my husband and I traveled to Lake Placid to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Once all four units are complete, they are joined using the Kitchener stitch for a smooth finish (if you’re not a fan of grafting, a three needle bind off may be substituted).

A note about gauge: In order to create drape, shawls and wraps are typically worked at a gauge that is looser than normal for the yarn. Blocking will impact the gauge significantly as you can see by the blocked and unblocked numbers given in this pattern. Be sure to adjust your needle size to achieve the given gauge. Although this is a wrap, it is important to achieve gauge in order to avoid running out of yarn and have your wrap match the measurements stated in this pattern.

A note about yards per color: This shawl was designed with the intention of using the maximum amount of each skein of yarn while mitigating the risk of knitters running out of any of the colors. Although my sample only used 80-90% of each skein it is important to allow full skeins of the recommended yarns to ensure that you have enough.
