A unique top down shawl inspired by the movement of light through our celestial heavens, triangular sections of slipped stitches are like swatches of starbursts reaching across the galaxy. A vertical column of garter stitches branches apart to make way for a comet of movement and the final border has 3 rows of falling stars.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 66” across top and 21.5” deep
MATERIALS
Araucania, Botany Lace [100% wool; 448yds/100g]; fingering weight, color 1791, 2 skeins
1 set US 5/3.75mm 32 inch circular needle
Tapestry needle, 4 stitch markers
GAUGE
18.5 sts/32 rows = 4” in garter stitch after blocking
24 sts/26 rows= 4” in slipped stitch star pattern after blocking
PATTERN NOTES
This shawl is worked from the top down starting with a garter stitch tab. Initially it is worked in 3 sections; the two outer sections have increases every RS row on either side of the section, while the center section has increases every 6 rows on either side of the section. Partway into the shawl, the center section is bisected to introduce the side chart once again.
