Cuileann is the Irish word for Holly. The Trinity Stitch looks like holly berries and is used as the cuff edge on either side of a Rope Cable to add a festive touch to this Christmas Stocking. This detail is worked flat before finishing the cuff in the round.

The Trinity (aka Blackberry) Stitch is the only stitch which cannot be reproduced by machinery and one of the hallmarks of Aran hand knit items. I was first introduced to the Trinity Stitch by Irish Knitwear Designer Edel MacBride, who tirelessly promotes traditional Aran knitting.

Pattern size can be adjusted using different yarn weights or needle size.

This pattern uses approximately 1.5 skeins of worsted weight yarn.
