Celtic Knot Granny blanket
This pattern creates a square blanket in a Celtic Knot plaitwork design using granny squares, half squares and quarter squares. There are also suggestions for extending the blanket to make it rectangular and an alternative central square (as shown in photos). Plus instructions for a join-as-you-go method to emphasize the background/foreground, over/under nature of the design.
There are plans of the different designs and suggestions for creating your own.
Instructions are for standard Granny Squares, half squares and quarter squares with rounds worked in alternative directions. There are also instructions for a half and half granny square that is needed if extending the blanket or choosing the alternative central design.
Patterns are given on picture free pages for ease of printing.
This could be made in a variety of yarn thicknesses, gauge as normal for the yarn.
The blanket shown is with a four round granny but any number of rounds is possible. Information is given for calculating final size from one square.
The design needs four main colours and one background colour. The pattern contains suggestions and colouring sheets are provided for trying out your own combinations.
For the central design of the blanket as shown: the background uses a third more yarn than each of the background colours. This increases to more than half as much again, if extending the blanket. You will obviously also need yarn for a border.
Pattern does not include ideas for the border but the last photograph is of my finished blanket with a border.
