This headband pattern is perfect for any single skein of aran or worsted weight yarn (or you could hold DK with mohair!). You could easily knit this headband for a whole range of head sizes as the size is very customisable.

Please follow this formula: measure your head around the part where your headband will sit. I like to work in approximately 5cm/2in of negative ease to ensure the headband will fit snugly. The knot in the front will measure roughly 10cm/4in. Subtract the desired ease and the length of the knot and you will end up with the length of the ‘body’ of the headband. Divide this length in half and you will know how much to knit before the knot and how much to knit after the knot.
Example: my head measures 56cm/22in. 56cm/22in - 5cm/2in (negative ease) - 10cm/4in (knot) = 41cm/16in. I will knit 20.5cm/8in before the knot and 20.5cm/8in after the knot.
Tip: don’t worry too much about the length. You will be able to adjust it at the end before seaming the two open ends together. The seam is invisible and therefore doesn’t have to lie exactly at the back of the head.
