Celtic Triangle Knot Hat
This is a classic fair isle tam, with (optional) corrugated ribbing and stranded color knitting. If you are enchanted by the loveliness of interlacing Celtic knotwork designs, or want an alternative to cables, this is it! The knotwork effect is created using stranded colorwork patterning. My version is done in Knit Picks Palette, but feel free to use any fingering weight or sock weight yarn you have on hand--you will only need small amounts of each color, with slightly more for the main color. I used eight different colors all together, but the design would be just as effective with either more or fewer colors.
This pattern has color charts for the border pattern and the crown pattern. M1 increases are used in the body of the tam. The crown uses centered double decreases (described in the pattern). You must be able to work from a color chart to use this pattern.
The border pattern chart is from the wonderful book Celtic Charted Designs by Co Spinhoven, great resource for lovers of Celtic art.
Special thanks to my test knitters: toe, cathy56000, JStockert, WoolyTanis, lidkyd, finarda, and Elizabeth11!
