The Celtic Winter Cardigan focuses on little details that make handmade sweaters personal and extra cozy. It features horizontal slit pockets and a generous amount of slip stitch ribbing running up the sides, sleeve undersides, and shawl collar. Slip stitch detailing mimics knit raglan lines for a classic look. This pattern is graded for bust measurements 32-62” and is a great gender-neutral gift option.

Level: Intermediate. This pattern uses a modified version of the moss stitch, slip stitch ribbing, surface slip stitches, short rows, and seaming. None of the components are overly complicated, there are just a lot of pieces.

Sizing: Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4) [5, 6, 7, 8] to fit bust measurements 32-34 (36-38, 40-42, 44-46) [48-50, 52-54, 56-58, 60-62]“ | 81-87 (91-97, 102-107, 112-117) [122-127, 132-137, 142-148, 152-158] cm.
Note: I was unable to find testers for size 8 and unfortunately my size 6 and 7 testers dropped out. If you are interested in testing these sizes, please send me a message! Size inclusivity is so important to me - I worked hard on grading the pattern, but I’d love to actually hear how it fits on real bodies.

Recommended fit is 2-4”/5-10 cm positive ease. Size up for a looser fit. Model has a 40” bust and is wearing size 3.

Construction: This is a bottom-up, seamed raglan. The two front, back, and two sleeve panels are worked flat and seamed at the raglan edges after slip stitch detailing is added. The fronts and back are then connected at the bottom with slip stitch ribbing, which runs up the front edge of the sweater to form the shawl collar using short rows. Buttonholes are also added at this stage. The remaining side seams are then sewn, and a similar process is used to add ribbing along the underside of the sleeve. Pocket backings are worked separately and sewn on, and more ribbing is added to finish off the pockets.

Yardage: approx. 1300 (1500, 1750, 1845) [2050, 2265, 2490, 2725] yd MC and 570 (595, 615, 645) [725, 755, 780, 810] yd CC. A lighter worsted (4) or heavier DK (3) is recommended.
Yardages in italics are estimates and have not been tested.
Sample used WeCrochet Provincial Tweed in Grey (MC) and Winter Walk (CC).
