Centerdale Mitts are the third pattern in my ebook collection ** Knit Fresh Rhode Island. ** Each month in 2015 I am releasing a pattern featuring yarn from farms based in Rhode Island. I love going to sheep and wool fairs and learning about the people and animals behind the yarn. I hope this project of mine inspires you to go explore the local fibers available in your area as well.
Centerdale Mitts are worked in the round beginning at the cuff. The cable rib is stretchy and helps the mitts feel nicely around your wrist.
The yarn used is a Border LeicesterLincoln/Llama blend from Maybe Tomorrow farm in Chepachet, RI. It is a nice crunchy wool with a little bit of fuzz but not so much to obscure your stitches. And it’s warm !

I had to use a size 4 needle to get a fabric with a feel I liked for these mitts. My gauge was 4 1/2 stitches per inch. You may need to experiment a little to get the same gauge. (I am also a loose knitter) The yarn I used is 10 wpi.

A commercial substitute that would work is Berocco Ultra Alpaca.
