Cepelka was inspired by Polish folk culture, which means lots of colours, stripes and a texture that brings them out even more. The name refers to a chain of shops that used to sell traditional Polish folk art and craft.

The shawl uses two skeins of tonal yarn, one of bright and vivid colours and the other one more dim and dusky to form a background. The length of the colour runs does affect the final result, and if it is too short / variegated you won’t get the striped effect.
My shawl uses Lana Grossa Magico II Meilenweit #3509 as main colour and #3523 as background. The shawl measures 182cm/72’ wingspan and 53cm/21’ depth.
Tonal sock yarn would be the best choice, you can also use tonal fingering or sport but keep in mind that it will affect the size of the shawl.
The pattern flows intuitively, you need to refer to the instructions at the beginning of each RS row, otherwise it doesn’t require a lot of concentration.
Blocking is very easy; just hang or lay flat to dry, there is no need to pin.

Jak już nazwa wskazuje, chusta jest zainspirowana elementami ludowymi. Układ kolorów, pasków i faktury przywodzą na myśl dzieciństwo, bajecznie kolorowe sklepy Cepelii i zachwyt, który mnie tam ogarniał.
Chusta jest prosta w formie i wykonaniu, nie wymaga znajomości skomplikowanych ściegów. Ważny jest natomiast odpowiedni dobór włóczki i od niego w dużej mierze zależy końcowy efekt.

Po pierwsze, musi to być włóczka wielokolorowa z dość długimi przejściami. Ani zbyt krótkie (typowa skarpetkowa ‘pstrokacizna’) ani zbyt długie (kokonki) nie dadzą efektu pasków.
Po drugie, ważny jest dobór kolorów. Jako kolor główny (KG) najlepiej wybrać zestaw barw mocnych, konkretnych i nasyconych, a jako kolor kontrastujący (KK) barwy bardziej stonowane, odcienie szarego, beżowego, bieli i czerni, tak aby stworzyć tło dla koloru głównego.
Po trzecie, rodzaj włóczki. Optymalnym wyborem byłaby tutaj skarpetkowa (100g = 400m, zazwyczaj 75% wełna i 25% poliamid), tak ze względu na grubość jak i na skład. Można też użyć włóczki nieco cieńszej lub grubszej, ale będzie to oczywiście miało wpływ na rozmiar chusty.
