Chai Sweater
The Chai sweater is a wonderfully fluffy and structurally interesting mockneck, designed with a cozy oversized fit and fun textures, accented by surface crochet! One of four patterns in the Caffeine Collection.
Gauge info is measured 4.25” x 4.25” is 11 sts x 9 rows of HDC using an 8mm hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
Sleeves are oversized, but taper slightly so they aren’t exactly straight sleeves. Sweater is designed with 8-10” of positive ease, a very roomy perfect fit for a cold winter day. Feel free to size down for a closer fit if desired.
Pattern is size inclusive! Sized according to CYC standard guidelines to accommodate busts 30-62” and is written as follows: XS(S,M,L)(XL,2X,3X,4X,5X) Sample shown is a size S on a 34” bust. Yarn used in sample is Lion Brand Feels Like Bliss in color Sand Dollar. This yarn is labeled as a (5) Bulky Weight yarn with a super soft fabulous Halo. Check out yarnsub.com for good alternatives to keep the same soft effect.
Sweater is constructed in several parts. The back and front panels are identical, made by seaming 3 pieces together to form each panel. The sleeves are then worked directly onto the body in turned rounds.
I highly recommend that you block this sweater in sections to ensure that each part is the right dimensions. Without doing so, your panels might “spring” up do to the nature of a herringbone stitch. Blocking isn’t so scary! I like to pin to dimensions and spritz with a plant mister, then let dry completely. Check out the resources on page 3 for lessons on blocking.
The different stitches that make up the pieces of each panel highlight textures and directional changes, making a fun and interesting effect that’s sure to stand out!
This pattern is also available as a bundle as a part of the Caffeine Collection, where you can purchase all 4 patterns for a slight discount at once
