This crochet pattern is from the first issue of the print publication Making.

Nothing says Spring like a chain of freshly-picked posies. The real thing doesn’t keep very long, but this crochet version will stay in bloom for years! This is a quick little project, perfect for using up odds and ends of leftover yarn. We’ve used a delicate lace-weight, but sock yarn would also work perfectly. Feel free to play with different combinations of flowers and colors to make the project your own!

Approx 24” 61 cm circumference; flowers: 1⁄2”–1 1⁄4” 1.5-3 cm diameter, leaves 3⁄4” 2 cm long

Yarn

The samples shown were made in Piper, a lace-weight mohair/merino yarn which made delicate, ethereal blooms. The multi-colored one was made with 6 yards or less in these colors:

• Amarillo (color A)
• Avocet (color B)
• Abilene (color C)
• Austin (color D)
• Rock Springs (color E)
• San Angelo (color F)

You could also use a total of about 25 yards 23 meters of any lace/fingering weight yarn in assorted colors, or just one color.

Gauge

Gauge isn’t essential for this project. Use the hook size that is comfortable for you while creating crisp, compact flowers.

Notes

These flowers use only basic crochet stitches, suitable for any level of ability, however the lace- weight yarn is very fine (making for sweet, delicate little blossoms) and working with it can be a bit fiddly. You may wish to practice each flower using worsted weight yarn and a size G 4.25 mm or larger hook before working your lace weight flowers. Also, remember that in nature, no two flowers are exactly alike, so if a stitch is out of place here or there, or there’s an extra petal, they will only look more natural!
