This hat sports a favorite cable found in an old stitch book of my Aunt Mary. It’s called the Double Chain Cable and has seed stitch weaving in and out of the cable. This is an advanced beginner level hat - the cable is 24 rows, but only 2 of the 24 require a cable needle. Knit flat, then seamed up the back, fur is optional but is simple to put on - no true sewing skills needed (Trust me. I cannot sew). Written directions, no charts. One size but notes advise on how to make a smaller version by changing yarn weight and needles size.

Finished Measurements:
Length along front rib, tip to tip, blocked: approx 24“/ 61 cm
Depth from front center rib edge back to top of back seam: approx 9.5“/ 24 cm

Gauge: 20 sts X 28 rows = 4“ / 10cm in Chain Cable stitch, blocked.

Materials:
210 yd / 192 m Malabrigo Worsted or any worsted that meets gauge.
1 Skein JUST makes the hat, more yarn on hand might be wise.

US Size 8 / 5mm circ or straight needles OR size needed to obtain gauge

1 extra Size 8 needle for 3 needle bind-off (cable needle can be used as 3rd needle)

Cable needle * Size G crochet hook * Sharp tapestry or darning needle

Optional: 1 piece faux fur 28” / 71 cm by 3” / 8 cm and 3 yd yarn same color as fur
Optional: 12 straight pins if attaching fur

Notes:
This hat is one size - if a child’s size is desired, use DK weight yarn and a
US size 6 / 4 mm or 7 / 4.5mm needle whichever obtains a
Gauge of 22 sts = 4 ins /10cm in Chain Cable Stitch, blocked.
If a slightly larger adult size is desired, go up 1 needle size from size that obtains
stated gauge.
