Chameleon Hat
This is a pattern for a crochet hat to fit sizes baby to adult large. The pattern is a simple 3 row repeat that doesn’t include any advanced stitches- just sc, dc and chains.
You can play around a lot with colours with this pattern, and make it to match any outfit like a true chameleon! You don’t need to follow my suggestion of alternating colours for each row. This hat will look amazing with variegated or long print yarn- but I would suggest paring that with a solid colour otherwise it will be hard to make out the lovely stripe pattern.
Suggested hook size: 4mm
Yarn weight: aran/worsted/yarn weight 4.
(Note: the yarn I recommended here is labelled chunky, but it works up more like an aran yarn in this pattern)
Suggested yarn: Something with a bit of fluffiness to it would be a good idea to fill in the chain spaces a bit, but any aran weight yarn should do the job.
Sizes available:
baby/toddler/child(teen (adult S)/adult M-L)
To fit head circumference:
37-41/42-46/47-52(53-56/57-61) cm
Gauge: By end of increases for crown (p. 3) the hat should be approx. 10.5/13/16(17/17) cm diameter.
This is your gauge swatch.
Yardage (will vary slightly according to yarn used): Total yardage = 90/110/140(160/170) m or 100/120/155(180/200) yards
This is about 70% for the main colour and 30% for the secondary colour
