Champignons Socks
Inspired by woodland walks, foraging expeditions, folk and fairy tales, and the pure magic of discovery, these socks can be made as natural or as whimsical as your heart desires. This is a great sock for all genders and lends itself to an endless array of colour combinations. I have included charts for light on dark AND for dark on light colourwork so that you don’t have to think it through while you are knitting. There are 2 different charts for the sole of the foot (in each size) so you can mix and match.
The Champignons socks come in three teen/adult sizes with notes on where to make adjustments to best fit your own foot. As usual with colourwork, the size of the sock can be adjusted by changing your gauge, either with your yarn choice or your needle size.
Alternate yarn suggestion: Most sizes can be knit with 50g of each of the two colours. If you are knitting a larger size, or if you know you will need to extend the foot, you may want to consider adding a mini for heels, toes, and cuffs or using 100g skeins.
The pattern is written as a cuff-down sock, with a forethought heel (just like an afterthought heel, but using waste yarn to save your stitches and keep the pattern intact). If you have experience with toe-up socks, the chart can be plugged in to your favourite toe-up formula by knitting the charts upside down.
As with most colourwork, you can adjust the fit by adjusting the gauge (by going up or down in needle size) and you can go up to sport or DK weight yarn on a larger needle if you would like warmer house socks.
