When I was pregnant with my now-two-year-old daughter, I scoured the internet for baby blanket patterns. I love the texture and flow of lacework, but also wanted to incorporate color changes in a way that fit the pattern. I had trouble finding resources for combining lacework with colorwork, so I ended up drafting my own charts and learning a lot through trial and error. Now that I’m out of the baby stage haze, I thought others might be interested in these charts, so I compiled them into the Changing Seasons Baby Blanket pattern.

I’m not a professional pattern drafter, and this is my first pattern, but I did my best! Please let me know if you notice any errors.

I used ladderback jacquard to manage my floats. This pattern doesn’t include step-by-step instructions on ladderback jacquard, but I found this tutorial very useful.

This pattern as written makes a 25” by 31” blanket, but repeats can be easily added to make a blanket in any size of your choosing. For colder weather or use on a bed for older kid, you may want to consider backing it with fleece or cotton.

I used Malabrigo Rios, but any worsted weight yarn in solid colors with good stitch definition would show off the texture and color changes well. The colorways used for the first pictured sample are: Solis (809), Water Green (83), Peachy (695), and Living Coral (696). The second sample (a version I did for my niece) uses: Ankara green (413), Teal feather (412), Purple mystery (30), and Holly hock (148).

Charts are included for transitions between the four colors, and a written instructions are included for a single color.
