For spring or autumn days with a nip in the air, these mittens will keep your hands warm and stylish whether walking down the street or crossing a channel. They can be knitted in a smooth yarn with stitch definition for a sleek look or a woolly yarn for a rustic look.

The mittens are worked in the round and have an afterthought thumb. (link to tutorial in pattern). They are decreased at the top before being grafted closed (link to tutorial on Kitchener Stitch in pattern).

MATERIALS

YARN: Manx Merino Fine by Rosy Green Wool.
Yarn A: North Atlantic (110 yards/101m).
Yarn B: Devon Natural (160 yards/147m).
Or other 4 ply / fingering to achieve gauge.
NEEDLES/NOTIONS:
3mm/US 2.5 circular needle at least 32” length for magic loop or same size double pointed needles.
Tapestry needle.
Scrap of contrast colour yarn.
4 or 5 stitch markers.

MEASUREMENTS AND GAUGE

28 sts and 39 rnds to 10cm / 4” in stocking stitch.
Item sizes: S (M, L)
16.5 (19, 21.5)cm / 6.5 (7.5, 8.5)” palm circumference.
Mitten length: 26cm/10.25”.
These mittens are designed to be quite long, but you can easily increase or decrease the length by adding or deleting rounds after the thumb set-up.
