Chaotic Knitting: Rule 30
This pattern is
available for free.
Part of the Botanica Mathematica project to use simple mathematical rules to generate pieces of knitting or crochet.
From the pattern web site:
“In mathematics, a chaotic system is one which has clear rules on what to do from one step to the next, but where the outcome is unpredictable
because it is so sensitive to the starting conditions. Amazingly, we can make up a knitting pattern which is complete chaos…”
This pattern is based on the mathematical Rule 30. The colour of each stitch is determined by the colours of the three stitches below it on the previous row.
The web site provides inspirational ideas rather than a cookbook recipe.
