Charles I wore a knitted vest in blue silk on the day of his execution in 1649. This tunic is a contemporary version knit in wool using pattern bands that were popular in Europe during the 17thc. The textured fabric of purl stitches on a Stockinette Stitch background imitates the surface decoration of hand-woven damask fabrics.

Body is knit in the round after joining the welting flaps. Sleeves are knit separately and seamed in.
