Pattern notes
Coat is constructed of separate Back, Front, Sleeve and Skirt pieces, with stripe patt featured throughout (see next section). Foundation Triangles are worked to start Back and Front pieces; V-shaped patt on Back is made by joining two Foundation Triangles tog and working across them both. Sleeve is constructed of V-shaped piece which is joined to form a tube, then more rows are added to create shape. Finished Sleeve length can be adjusted by adding length to cuff. Skirt is worked in simple stripes. Once blocked, a border is worked around each piece in turn, then pieces are joined tog with dc seam. Buttonhole Band, Button Band, Collar and buttons are added to finish. Use 3mm hook throughout, unless otherwise indicated; use 3.5mm hook for ss rows to ensure sts are not too tight. Turn work after each row unless otherwise indicated. Beg ch1, ch2 and ch3 do not count as st(s) throughout.
COLOUR SEQUENCE FOR STRIPE PATTERN
This Coat has been designed for you to create your own unique
colourway, using MC and any sequence of CC. Stripe pattern is created by alternating between Main Colour (MC) and Contrast Colour (CC) every two rows throughout patt (until Border section). Plan CC yarns into your preferred sequence before beginning if you wish. Coat shown in photos (Size M) was made using 43 different 10g balls from a Metropolis Colour Pack; visit Simy’s Studio blog for the colour order if you wish to recreate it: bit.ly/charleston-coat. Metropolis Colour Packs contain enough CC yarn for all sizes; however, it will not be possible to recreate the same colourway as the sample for sizes L-XXL. Alt between MC and CC without fastening off yarn each time (unless
changing to new CC, see below). Leave yarn not in use hanging at side of work for 2 rows, then draw it through lp on hook at start of next row to switch colour. While MC stays the same throughout, CC will change if you are creating a multi-coloured Coat. To change to new CC, simply fasten off prev CC at end of row where appropriate, work 2 rows in MC, then join new CC with ss in fi rst st of next row.
