Charlotte Lace Cowl
This luxurious cowl is a modern and unexpected twist on a classic lace pattern that is easier to knit than it looks. Elegant and urban in grey alpaca, it would be just as lovely in any color. Finish it with three beautiful buttons, then wear it wrapped twice or let it drape loosely.
NEW!
When you purchase this pattern, you’ll also receive the Addendum for the chunky version (shown in winter white, see photos 7 & 8) so you can make either one, or both! The chunky version is wider, but somewhat smaller in circumference (11”/28cm x 32”/81cm).
PATTERN NOTES
The easy-to-follow (and remember) stitch pattern consists of mostly knit and purl rows ~ you only need to really concentrate every few rows on some yarn overs and knit 2 togethers! The waviness happens almost without effort and is highlighted by purls every 8th row.
YARN
2 skeins of Blue Sky Sport Weight, 100% Baby Alpaca. The entire 2 skeins (total of 220 yds / 200 m) will be required for specified length.
You could also choose a DK or worsted weight yarn if you wish to substitute. Aiming for a a somewhat loose gauge somewhere around 20 sts/4” (in your stockinette swatch) lets the lace pattern look its best.
GAUGE
The gauge as suggested for this cowl when using this yarn is slightly loose to allow the yarn’s gorgeous halo to bloom.
CONSTRUCTION NOTES
The cowl is knit flat and then, after binding off, ends are joined with some simple sewing to form a closed loop. To finish, 3 buttons are sewn on, no buttonholes required!
DIMENSIONS
6 1/2 inches / 16.5 cm wide (after blocking) and approximately 43 inches / 109 cm in circumference after joining ends with slight overlap.
SKILLS USED
Knit, purl, yarn overs, knit 2 together, basic sewing skills.
