Charlotte's Coaster
A friend at work has been teaching herself to knit and recently learned how to purl. She asked if I had a pattern for something that she could practise with and after a little discussion we agreed on a coaster.
Something small but relatively simple, that would be quick to make so she would get an instant high when she finished it and want to make something else!!
The coaster features a very simple pattern using the following stitches -
garter stitch - knit every stitch on every row
reverse garter stitch - purl every stitch on every row
double rib - K2, P2
You can follow the pattern exactly as written to make a square coaster, or work some extra rows for a wide coaster so there’s room for a mug and a biscuit!!
I used DK (double knit) and 4mm needles but you could make it with aran for a slightly larger version, or 4 ply for a smaller one - unless you want to play with the number of stitches of course!! You need 3 sts for each edge and a multiple of 4 sts for the main pattern.
I would point out, no one but myself has tested this little pattern, so if you find a mistake, please do let me know!
happy Knitting :slightly_smiling_face:
