I absolutely love checked patterning, so here is a project that works as a bit of a sampler for those fun checks! I started with a cowl and had enough left over to work a headband as well. The notes for the headband are included at the end of the pattern. The purl rows in the cowl also allow you to easily flip a section to the inside to shorten it if desired.

Materials:

  • 2 contrasting colors of Malabrigo Mecha (100% Superwash Merino, 130yds per 100g) Shown: color A is Whole Grain (696) and color B is Pocion (139)
  • US 11 circular needles in 24” length
  • Stitch marker to denote beginning of round
  • Scissors and tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:
3.5 stiches per inch. 14 sts x 16 rows per 4x4 inch square in pattern. Cowl is approximately 10 inches tall and 26 inches in circumference.
Note: If adjusting size, pattern is a multiple of 12 - stitch count must be divisible by both 4 and 6 to work for all 3 check sizes.
