Checkerboard Cowl
This is an easy cowl with a wonderfully warm look and feel. The cozy faux cables are made with knits and purls so you don’t need to know how to cable! It’s a great pattern for new knitters or someone looking for an easy knit.
Yarn: The model used approximately 370 yards of yards of Blue Sky Extra, which makes the cowls so soft! Pick a your favorite aran weight yarn. I recommend something with a bit of a halo or softness like baby alpaca to give it a rich feel but it will look good with any yarn you prefer. I’ve also made this for friends using a bulky yarn like Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky on #10 needles.
Adjusting the pattern:
You can easily make the cowl bigger or smaller. You can adjust the circumference by adding or dropping in sets of 20 stitches and you can adjust the length by adding or dropping 10 rows.
Needles and needs:
• 9 (US) needles
• One special end of round stitch marker
• 13 stitch markers
• Tapestry needle
Gauge: 19 stitches by 24 rows in stockinette stitch on 9 needles
Size: The circumference of this cowl is approximately 29 inches and the length is approximately 14 inches.
