Welcome to my Net Ornament Cover Variations Series! This pattern features the very regal and dramatic looking checkerboard!

This cover takes about 50 yds of thread, and nearly 100 beads for the beaded version! I have used a smaller hook than normal for size 10 thread because I want the chain stitches to stay tight. However, if you prefer to use a slightly larger hook it won’t make much difference. The pattern is designed for standard size ball ornaments in the USA which are slightly larger than 2.5” in diameter, or about 8.5” around the widest part. I strongly recommend using plastic ornaments, since blown glass balls can break under the crochet.
