Why a checkered past? I first knitted the Checkered Past Tea Towel years ago, just to see if I could. This time I wanted to knit something a bit smaller, but still using the check design that I love. This smaller version can be used as a dishcloth, face cloth, etc.

Knits and purls combine to make a checkerboard pattern, which is easy to memorize. The colors you can use are endless, and the yarn is inexpensive cotton - or just use scrap yarn and throw it all in there. The cloth looks the same front and back.
