A quick knit using an addictive stitch pattern, inspired by
the texture of metal checkerplate flooring.

YARN: worsted weight yarn, approx.145m / 158 yards.

Sample shown in Lily Kate Makes AXIS worsted (90% merino, 10% sure alpaca, 100m per 50g skein) in shade Neutrino. If using this yarn, you will need 2 skeins.

GAUGE: 22 sts and 26 rows to 4 inches / 10 cm in Checkerplate stitch blocked. Suggested size 4.5 mm.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS:
4mm & 4.5mm needles of your preferred length for working small
circumferences in the round, eg. DPNs, magic loop, short circulars.
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle

SIZING: finished circumference 17.5” / 45cm, which comfortably fits an adult head of circumference 22.5” / 57 cm.

Note:** using DK weight yarn and 3.5mm & 4mm needles produced a perfect hat size for a 6 year old, following the pattern exactly as written using the shorter option.*
