Pattern description from Weekend Knitting: “Board games are universally appealing and oftentimes bridge gaps between generations and even cultures, making it possible for people who don’t think they have anything to share to find common ground. Knit these boards - and their accompanying bags - and take them to a local cafe or on vacation for hours of fun. Both sets are made with machine-washable yarn. The checker set is knitted in cotton and the backgammon set is knitted in wool, but the yarns - because they work up at the exact same gauge - are interchangeable. The backgammon bag can be carried with the board attached on the outside or with the board rolled up inside. The checkers set includes instructions for a large drawstring bag to hold the board and a small drawstring bag to hold the pieces.”

Yarn: Mission Falls 1824 Cotton (100% cotton; 84 yards / 50 grams): #104 sand, 4 skeins; #402 sea (blue), #208 merlot (wine red), and #302 wintergreen (green), 3 skeins each.

Needles:

  • One 29” circular (circ) needle size US 6 (4 mm).
  • Size double-pointed needles (dpn) size US 6 (4 mm).
  • Change needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Yarn needle, yarn bobbins (optional), thirty approximately 1/2” to 1” buttons, beads, or coins for backgammon pieces - 15 each in two contrasting shapes or colors (shown with One World Button Supply Co. small filigree brass beads KUM-313 and small spiderweb brass beads KUM-306), four 1” buttons for attaching board to tote (shown with One World Button Supply Co. bleached horn button NPL 270-25XBL), one 1.25” button for tote closure (shown with One World Button Supply Co. bleached horn button NPL 270-34XBL), storebought dice and doubling cube.
